Another classic to visit in Winnipeg – the Manitoba Museum features three distinct areas to visit along with special events and displays.
The museum upstairs features all the classic exhibits like the Nonsuch ship and port (closed for renos until Summer 2018) as well as many displays of animals, Indigenous culture/history, artifacts and massive displays of early 1900s living. The Science Gallery downstairs features hands-on activities like building and racing your own slot car, making tornadoes, replicating a flood and much more.
The Planetarium (also downstairs) is an immersive screen experience featuring a variety of shows including shows about stars and the universe. Visit their website for current info and hours. Pro tip: Their memberships are a great value and often go on sale at the beginning of the year.
We bought a membership for around $100 and wow did it ever help us get through the winter. Our kids are not in a lot of sports or recreational activities yet, so this was a great indoor option for winters. They love going through both the science gallery and and the museum gallery. We can put our stuff in the lockers and sit for a snack during our time there. The race car area of the gallery (you can race slot cars) is the biggest hit.
